Successful women, running women
Successful women, running women
This week I had a discussion with a friend of mine regarding successful women. She was attending this seminar led by a private startup organization: Night of Successful Women.

I have never been to such a workshop (I am a guy for one excuse), so I cannot really judge, but I guess it is suitable for networking and self-confidence. When you hear about other lives and work problems and challenges, you kind of associate yourself and analyze them together. This helps you to overcome your own issues at home. And guys, let's be honest, women have many of them. From children, household, finance, body weight, work projects to self-esteem, self-confidence, and controlling/loving us, men.
Who is a successful woman?
First of all, she is a runner. She is the best in organizing time schedules. Yours, children, work, neighbors, grandparents, projects, running between them with pace 4:30 at least. How does she do is a mystery to all men. Some say the ability to multitask, the ability to remember all (they don't have the CRS syndrome-like men), or just a good running pace. I believe it is a combination of all. Plus, they use this magical paper called the notes scheduler. Ever noticed women mark something into their phone or tablet? No, they take this small paper diary out from their purse and scribble something in. And they can find the exact spot even months after and bring it on.

They are passionate about what they do. Loving but protective and safe zoned. I haven't seen many women lately taking the risk of going into the new and unknown environment. On one side, they do the best what they do. On the other hand, somehow, they wait for men to open up the new worlds to them. Throwing them into the wild jungle of sacred territory with a bunch of cannibal tribes. That's why there are so very few women CEOs out there and so very few airplane pilots. (According to Fortune magazine, women currently hold 21 (i.e., 4.2%) of CEO positions at those S&P 500 companies, and the percentage of female pilots is 5.39% (table – All Pilots Statistics 1960-2010).
The self-confidence of a runner.
These are the two most important factors when you consider successful women. And it starts with parenting. My friend told me she was raised like that. 'Do not give too many questions and always play on the safe side, we are a respected family in our town.' Now, for me, she is a very successful woman, although she doesn't know it. Being a top manager and CFO in the top 10 S&P 500 companies must mean she has earned that. On top, mother of two daughters, wife, and an amateur runner. Yet, the self-confidence is lower than one would expect. So I am questioning why?
Nobody told them yet
So here is the deal of the day. Women are successful. But they don't know it. Their superior managers (male) and leaders don't tell them this. Their husbands don't tell them this. Their children don't tell them. Their mothers don't tell them that. It is kind of expected of them to be a full-time mother, wife, project manager, household CFO, personal driver, runner, cleaner, webmaster, or simply a woman. Therefore they must go to such seminars such as 'Night of Successful Women' to tell this among themselves. 'Nice to meet you, Helen, you are successful, nice to meet you, Susan, you are successful too. I am not saying this is the cure or solution. The transformation starts within.
What is the moral of the short article? The only way how to push the insufficient numbers of WOMEN CEOS AND PILOTS is to tell them always how successful they are. Raise their confidence level by saying how great things they have accomplished, how amazingly they closed the project how fast they run outside in the morning or evening. Throw them to the unsecured environment, and they will succeed.

Action for women - once a day, do something crazy, something that is not expected of you. Say it loud, go into the conflict, write something, comment it, run faster or further, run different paths. Get yourself a wellness treat with your best friend. Live for yourself, not others.
Action for men (managers, friends, husbands). Tell them how great they are. Say thank you, involve them in your crazy and chaotic world. Throw them into the white water stream and challenge them constantly until they hate you for that (the very thin line between love and hate)
Remember, a successful woman is a running woman.
